FAQs
- What are the differences between Opus and Ode?
Opus is made to grind for all brew methods, from espresso to cold brew. Ode is built to dominate brewed coffee, which means that Ode is not suitable for espresso.
- Is Ode Brew Grinder and/or Opus suitable for grinding espresso?
Ode is built to dominate brewed coffee. Unfortunately, that means that Ode is not suitable for espresso. The grind range on Ode will not be fine enough (<200 microns for espresso). Ode’s 64mm flat burrs and motor are geared towards drip and immersion coffee brewing.
Opus can grind for all brew methods, from the finest espresso for a true 9-bar shot all the way to the coarsest coffee for cold brew. Learn more about the recommended grind ranges for different brew methods on ourGear Guideand in the Get to Know You Guide found in the box.
- What is the difference between Ode Gen 2 and Ode Gen 2 with SSP Burrs?

- How do I clean and maintain Opus?
Watch Nick T., VP of Hardware and R&D at Fellow and Certified Q Grader, walk through how to clean and maintain Opus here.
Exterior: We recommend using a non-abrasive damp cloth to wipe down the exterior and load bin of Opus.
Exit Chute/Anti Static: The anti static technology will work best for about 60 cycles before it needs to be cleaned to operate at its peak performance. To clean it, remove the catch cup, and use the Fellow cleaning brush (or another cleaning brush such as a clean makeup brush or a clean paint brush) and “swipe” around the inside of the exit chute (where the coffee grounds come out). This will clean the chute and help the anti-static mechanisms work well.
Burrs: Take the load bin off, remove the outer burr, and brush the burrs with the Fellow cleaning brush (or another cleaning brush such as a clean makeup brush or a clean paint brush).
- How do I use and care for my Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2?
Ready to start using your Ode Gen 2? Download the Get to Know You Guide that will walk you through all of your grinder’s features.
We also have cleaning, maintenance, and calibration instructions in the Safety Manual.
- How do I keep the Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2 clean?
Please see the General Cleaning instructions in the Safety Manual.
If you start to notice that there is more grind retention (grinds stuck in the exit chute) than when you first used the unit, don’t worry! This is normal. We found during our testing that the grinder will run for about 60 cycles before it needs to be cleaned to operate at its best performance.
To clean it, remove the catch cup, and use the provided brush and “swipe” around the inside of the exit chute (where the coffee grounds come out). This will clean the chute and help the anti-static mechanisms working well.
Remember: The cleaner you keep your grinder, the better the anti static mechanisms are going to work. This will help reduce the amount of coffee retained in the grinder.
