This week’s drop: BIGFACE Kilonova an exclusive blend from our collab with basketball star Jimmy Butler’s coffee brand, BIGFACE. A blend from two origins, Ethiopia and Colombia, this coffee works beautifully for all brew methods and performs exceptionally well on the new Espresso Series 1. 

Roasted light-medium for clarity and balance with stone fruit up front, blackberry through the middle, and honeysuckle on the finish. Two stars collide. One singular cup.

NOTE: BIGFACE recommends a minimum of 7–10 days off roast for filter, and 14–21 days for espresso. KILONOVA tends to hit its peak in the 2–3 week window post-roast.

Espresso - Series 1 Settings

How to Access:

  1. Turn on your Series 1 espresso machine

  2. Navigate to "Profiles" on the touchscreen

  3. Scroll down and select "Fellow Drops"

  4. Select "BIGFACE Kilonova"

  5. Follow the guided workflow to pull your shot

Series 1 Profile Parameters:

  • Dose: 18g

  • Ratio: 1:2.5

  • Temp: 200°F

  • Declining temp: Off

  • Transition: Smooth

Preinfusion:

  • Off or On: On

  • Duration: 5 seconds

  • Pressure: 3 bars

  • Fill flow rate: 3.5 ml/s

Infusion:

  • Duration: 20 seconds

  • Pressure: 8 bars

Ramp Down:

  • Off or On: On

  • Duration: 3 seconds

  • End Pressure: 6 bars

Grind Guidance

Start in the middle of your espresso range on your grinder, and Series 1 will tell you to go finer or coarser after your shot pulls. It is expected that you might need to adjust based on your specific variables (i.e. location, climate, water mineral content, etc.). Small adjustments go a long way!

Espresso Recipe

  • Dose: 18g

  • Yield: 45g

  • Ratio: 1:2.5

  • Temperature: 200°F

  • Pressure: 8 bars

  • Pull time: 28-32 seconds

Tips

  • Adjust grind size if your shot pulls too fast (grind finer) or too slow (grind coarser)

  • Clean your Series 1 regularly for optimal performance

Pour Over

Stagg X/ flat bottom drippers

Ingredients:

  • Coffee: 15g

  • Water: 250g at 205°F

Grind Settings:

  • Ode + SSP Burrs: 6.2-7.2

  • Ode Gen 2 Burrs: 5.2-6.2

  • Ode Gen 1 Burrs: 4.2-5.2

  • Opus: 6.2-7.2 (inner ring at 0)

Steps:

  1. Grind coffee at medium to medium-coarse setting

  2. Rinse filter with 205°F water

  3. Bloom: Pour to 45g water, stir, wait 45 seconds

  4. Continuous pour stages:

    • Pour to 90g, wait 30 seconds

    • Slowly pour until the final weight of 250g, swirl

  5. Target brew time: 2:30-3:00 minutes
